2004 News Stories?

Dec 10, 2004 02:06 am by b.j.swank in Upcoming Shows

We’re starting to think about our next show called 2004: Year In Review or some such. I’m working on an idea for which I need as many news items from 2004 as possible, be they major news events or just quirky things that people remember. I’d like at least 100… I did glean a few gems from Wikipedia

So, what do you remember about 2004? (Other than, y’know, Iraq & Bush)

    1) Supreme Court of Canada said spanking was okay.
    2) Supreme Court of Canada said same sex marriage was good.
3)Supreme Court of Canada said that poor farmer whose crop was infested with the Monsanto seeds was guilty of patent infringement.
    4) Supreme Court of Canada said not funding treatment for autistic children okay.
    5) Supreme Court of Canada said governments have a responsibility to consult with First Nations about lands claimed, but third parties (read: logging companies) don’t.
    6) Supreme Court of Canada said Clare needs to get a life.

    Surprisingly very little.

    Dean’s scream.

    Wardobe malfunction.

I think in the spring a minority of Canadians determined the next prime-minister and then the rest of us confirmed that decision in the fall.

    Arafat dies.

    Sudan.

Paris Hilton appears in a second home video. Once again with someone other than me.

The US had possibly the most important election in their entire history. Much like they do every four years.

    Expos move.

Hockey doesn’t happen (and I couldn’t be happier, oh wait, I could be in one of those Paris Hilton home videos).

And for Claire, Supreme Court of Canada confirms that it file sharing is not illegal.

There’s no i in Clare? How unfortunate.

I believe you mean “How fortunate for that lucky, name-blessed girl, who I have wrongly maligned by misspelling her name”, don’t you, Mr. Hearns?

Actually I meant how unfortunate for me because it makes me look like an idiot who can’t read. And if there’s one thing I hate, it’s accurate portrayals of myself.

As with all things I say or do, the comment was meant to be as self-involved as possible.

    ;)
